One of the best antivirus software free packages currently on the market is probably Avast, this antivirus offers protection and one of the best rates for detecting other anti-virus programs.

A wot is a free link scanner. This program will analyze all links when search you on Google or another search engine and determine whether they are safe, dangerous or unknown. It then provides you with a green light for good, red for bad light and light for unknown amber.
FTP client
Probably the best FTP client, I found would be FireFTP, it is an add - on for Mozilla Firefox.
Desktop software
OpenOffice.org is a free Office suite that includes all the programs standard that would be in the equivalent of Microsoft.
